Renaissance of Hope / Straight Gate Neighborhood Vision Statement

We will be a well-connected, equitable neighborhood bound by the major transit corridors of Grand River and Livernois, utilizing these edges to define the neighborhood character and draw regional traffic. Establishing an innovative neighborhood park, resource hub, and food ecosystem to improve health outcomes and the stability of neighborhood families. Developing substantial single-family housing units while transferring land/home ownership to current neighborhood residents. Building upon the history and strengths of the neighborhood by repurposing vacant buildings and lots while maximizing resources of existing spaces, organizations, and proposed projects. Offering all necessary commercial, educational, recreational, and health services within a twenty-minute walk for residents and visitors. Accomplishing this vision by engaging residents and stakeholders, creating a sense of ownership and pride in the neighborhood -- including giving the neighborhood a name.

“Health includes mental, physical, emotional, and spatial wellness. It is vitally important that someone has access to all of those to be ‘whole.’ It is important the whole person is being served.”
